Cute book that discusses responsibility dealing with pets。 The story also explains that not all pets have to be furry like dogs, cats, and bunnies。 Max compared his sister's lizard to himself because they were both adopted and now loved。 There's nothing wrong with being a little strange! Great introducer for chapter books。 The text is large and it is illustrated but it has title page for time and location shifts。

What a neat way of helping teach children about finding a way of getting a pet when you or your siblings have an allergy。 AND an older sibling watching out for your younger sibling when they would like a pet as well。 This is part of a series of books; if you have an opportunity to get any of them to read to your children check them out。 They have been really nice。

"Emma's Strange Pet" by Jean Little is about a Max and Emma who are siblings。 Emma wants a pet for her birthday。 Max wants a furry pet but his sister Emma is allergic。 So, they compromise and buy a lizard。 This book is an early chapter book。 It is organized into sections to prepare children for chapter books。 The sentences are written in a way for the reader to completely understand what is being said。 The texts are mostly written in white space。 A child who can read on their own would be able t "Emma's Strange Pet" by Jean Little is about a Max and Emma who are siblings。 Emma wants a pet for her birthday。 Max wants a furry pet but his sister Emma is allergic。 So, they compromise and buy a lizard。 This book is an early chapter book。 It is organized into sections to prepare children for chapter books。 The sentences are written in a way for the reader to completely understand what is being said。 The texts are mostly written in white space。 A child who can read on their own would be able to read this book。 I would have a child read this book to learn about allergies, pets, and how to get along with siblings。 It teaches the importance of being understanding when things do not go the way that you may want。 。。。more

Emma's Strange Pet is a good transitional book that can be read to Kindergarteners through second grade。 This book is about Emma and how she is allergic to pets。 This book talks about her finding a pet that she's not allergic to。 This will probably relate to some students because a lot of people are allergic to pets。 This book has more words and less pictures which is perfect for a transitional reader。 I would assign this book for a book project or something of that matter。 The student should be Emma's Strange Pet is a good transitional book that can be read to Kindergarteners through second grade。 This book is about Emma and how she is allergic to pets。 This book talks about her finding a pet that she's not allergic to。 This will probably relate to some students because a lot of people are allergic to pets。 This book has more words and less pictures which is perfect for a transitional reader。 I would assign this book for a book project or something of that matter。 The student should be able to read this on their own time, and alone for the most part。 I would recommend this book to teachers who have a transitional reader in their classroom。 。。。more

I think this was a great book that introduces issues of allergies and adoption in relationship to pet ownership。 I loved that they called the lizard stranger and how Jean perfectly described the lizard eating。。。especially with one leg of the cricket hanging out his mouth。 This would be enjoyed by both boys and girls of seven and eight years old。

Another well told story by Jean Little! Here we continue the theme of adoption with bringing home a new pet - and not your usual pet at that! I liked how she tied this in with Max's adoption and how he's adjusting to his new family。 Again, this story is a lot deeper than I expected, and enjoyable on many levels。 I would highly recommend this one as well! When Emma gets a new pet, her brother Max gets jealous。 I love this book for many reasons;taking on a pet is a big responsibility and this book shows some of the steps in being responsible。 It also shows patience from Max and a change in thought from the dad, which can show children that if they are responsible and patient, they may get their way with mom and dad。 They book could also appeal to anyone with pet allergies。 Book is smaller and more for single readers instead of read-aloud。

This is a fun story about a family who gets a "strange" pet when their little girl has allergies that prevent them from getting a "normal", hairy pet。 It has an underlying story about adoption that ties the story together at the end, but is a little too subtle and I think it would be confusing for some kids。 Overall, it's a good story and our girls liked it。 This is a fun story about a family who gets a "strange" pet when their little girl has allergies that prevent them from getting a "normal", hairy pet。 It has an underlying story about adoption that ties the story together at the end, but is a little too subtle and I think it would be confusing for some kids。 Overall, it's a good story and our girls liked it。 。。。more

An early reader with a message about sibling cooperation, Emma's Strange Pet will appeal to a wide audience: boys and girls, pet lovers, those with allergies, and those who have been adopted。 I didn't realize this book is part of series until after I read the reviews; readers will appreciate being able to follow these characters through a variety of adventuresCIP Summary:Emma is allergic to animals with fur, but because she and her adopted brother really want a pet they decide to try a lizard。Fr An early reader with a message about sibling cooperation, Emma's Strange Pet will appeal to a wide audience: boys and girls, pet lovers, those with allergies, and those who have been adopted。 I didn't realize this book is part of series until after I read the reviews; readers will appreciate being able to follow these characters through a variety of adventuresCIP Summary:Emma is allergic to animals with fur, but because she and her adopted brother really want a pet they decide to try a lizard。From Booklist:Gr。 1-2。 In this I Can Read book, the words are simple but the story is complex, with several chapters and a fair amount of dialogue to challenge readers' skills。 The story also gives readers something to think about beyond translating letters into words。 Max wants a dog, but his sister, Emma, is allergic。 A family visit to the pet store eventually solves the problem--a lizard seems the perfect pet--but lessons are learned about animal care and family relationships before the sweet ending occurs。 From School Library Journal:K-Gr 2-Four-year-old Max wants a dog but his sister's allergies limit family pets to the furless variety。 When Emma selects a lizard as a birthday gift, the boy proves he's responsible enough to own one, too。 Simple line-and-watercolor illustrations portray realistic sibling interactions with sincerity。 。。。more
